College of Education

The quality of education provided by the College of Education is reflected in its selection for membership in the prestigious National Network for Educational Renewal (NNER). As the only California institution in the NNER, the College of Education has built strong partnerships with local schools. These partnerships encourage University faculty and schoolteachers to learn from one another as we work together to improve both the quality of instruction in public schools and in our teacher education programs.

California must find more than a quarter of a million new teachers in the next 10 years to meet demand created by the increasing population and mandated reduction in class sizes. Meanwhile, the State educates only about 20,000 new teachers each year. This means that the teacher shortage California already faces is going to become more severe. At the same time, greater emphasis is being placed on improving the quality of instruction offered in public schools. Teachers, counselors, and administrators-some with statewide and national reputations-received credentials through the college's program. With your help, Cal Poly can address the crisis in California schools.
