About the Student Philanthropy Council
The Student Philanthropy Council was created to foster a campuswide culture of philanthropy.
Our mission is to educate Cal Poly students about the significance of private giving, which makes our Learn by Doing education possible, and to show students that it is never too soon to make an impact on campus.
The SPC also heads fundraising for the Senior Class Gift, an opportunity for seniors to celebrate their time at Cal Poly and pay it forward to the next generation of Cal Poly students.
The Student Philanthropy Council (SPC) provides opportunities for students to:
- Explore and apply majors − through social media marketing, event planning, graphic communications, communications, journalism and more!
- Create − by recognizing and developing new ways to spread the word about philanthropy and sharing and developing ideas as a team.
- Network − by developing connections with alumni and across campus.
- Make an impact.
The Student Philanthropy Council was founded in 2008 by six students. In 2009, it helped facilitate the 2009 Senior Class Gift − a bike rack installed at Campus Market. In 2010 and 2011, the SPC brought Days of Philanthropy to Cal Poly, educating students about the eye-opening generosity of Cal Poly alumni and friends.
